What is LDAR-Sim?

Comparing the emissions reduction and cost efficacy of different leak detection and repair (LDAR) programs in the real world is time consuming and expensive. New technologies and work practices to detect and measure methane are also quickly emerging but their potential in LDAR programs is unknown. The Leak Detection and Repair Simulator (LDAR-Sim) Web App was developed to provide an accessible way to model the potential outcomes of customized LDAR programs deployed across a virtual O&G asset base.

LDAR-Sim is an agent-based numerical modeling framework that enables the precise definition and evaluation of a broad range of possible LDAR programs. LDAR programs may consist of multiple different technologies, work practices, survey frequencies, and repair practices that can be simultaneously deployed at the jurisdictional, basin, or individual facility scales.

How does the LDAR-Sim web app work?

Registration

LDAR-Sim is free to use but registration is required. Once registered, please use your credential to log in.

Setup & Run

Review configuration, modify parameters, and build your own LDAR programs. When ready, we will simulate these programs on our servers.

View Results

View and download the results from your simulations to understand how your LDAR programs performed.

LDAR-Sim Key Features

Open Source Project

LDAR-Sim is a modeling framework that is open, free, and continuously evolving. We encourage scientists, regulators, O&G companies, innovators, and solution providers to contribute to the continued development and evolution of LDAR-Sim.

Configurable Programs

Designing custom LDAR programs requires flexibility. We have made this process as simple as possible by allowing users to adopt default parameters or to configure highly customized programs.

Built Together

LDAR-Sim is a product of collaboration and was built through partnership with regulators, energy companies, industry groups, innovators, and researchers.

Designed for Everyone

The LDAR-Sim web app is built to be accessible to non-programmers who want to explore work practices, predict emissions reductions, or estimate LDAR program costs.
